Robin Gibb dies at the age of 62 from cancer. RIP Robin Gibb

Robin Hugh Gibb 1949 - 2012

Robin Gibb dies of Colon Cancer at the age of 62. Born Robin Hugh Gibb in December 22nd 1949 to Barbara and Hugh Gibb in Douglas, Isle of Man. Co-founder of one of the most influential bands of the 20th century, The Bee Gees (Brothers Gibb) along with twin brother Maurice and eldest brother Barry, one other brother, Andy Gibb, died tragically at the age of 30 with a heart attack. Twin brother Maurice died in January 2003 from a similar condition.

Their mother Barbara who is in her nineties claimed that the family had been cursed because of the phenomenal success of the Bee Gees.

For those who have lived in a cave since the 1960’s the Bee Gees have sold over 400 million records as a band and countless millions as solo artists as well as having their work covered by thousands of top artists with the greatest of them all, Elvis Presley using songs such as ‘Words’, they also wrote and produced for many top artists including Diana Ross, Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, Barbara Streisand and countless others.

The Bee Gees will probably be remembered for their Disco area smash records that saw them dominate the charts and their soundtrack for Saturday Night Fever, a blockbuster film that produced hit after hit as well as the rise of John Travolta. For me though, I will always favour the early Bee Gees hits such as ‘To love somebody’ ‘First of May’ ‘New York Mining Disaster’ ‘Words’ ‘Gotta get a message to you’ and countless others.

Thankfully and due to technology, we are left with a wealth of sounds and images of the Bee Gees and of Robin Gibb and in this way his and their memory will live on.

Villas in St Martin - Plane landing at Maho Beach St Martin over the heads of tourists!!

"Are we there yet?"

Maho Beach is on the Caribbean island of St Martin (Sint Maarten) and it has golden sands, Chrystal clear Caribbean waters, clear blue skies and massive Jumbo jets just above your head! Yes! Bloody great Jumbo jets pass over your head so close you see the screws in the Cockpit!

The planes are bringing in tourists to this beautiful island and the planes are landing at Princess Juliana International Airport, The Caravanserai Resort, the popular Sunset Beach Bar and other restaurants/night clubs such as Bamboo Bernie’s and Bliss are located nearby. The Government of St Martin has a warning sign telling tourist that there is a risk of serious injury or death from the low flying airbus jet stream. An additional fence was erected to prevent the tourist hanging on and being blown almost vertical by the jets engines.
